Whats New With Windows 8 1 Release Date and Features

Microsoft recently released the Preview version of its highly anticipated Windows 8.1 update. The final version is expected to be available for download in September or October. Formerly known as Windows Blue, the changes that accompany the update are numerous.
Microsoft also released a PDF guide to cover the changes, but it only highlights them rather than detailing how they work. If youre interested to know which changes the updated version of the operating system will bring, keep reading.

New Start Button
Folks that were hoping for a start button may not be happy about this improvement. Rather than going to a start menu, the start button simply takes you back to the start screen. There have been some improvements with the start screen itself, though. There are more colors and backgrounds available, or you can set your desktop background as your start screen background.
Create Slideshows on Your Lock Screen
Many people will enjoy this feature in the Windows 8.1 update. Rather than a single picture on your lock screen, youll be able to have a slideshow of rotating pictures. These can be pictures from your device or from photos on Microsoft SkyDrive.
Improved Tile Experience
The tiles are a feature that many users like, and this has improved significantly. The start screen holds tiles of a variety of sizes from large to small. You can rearrange tiles as easily on the desktop now as you can on a smart phone. Simply right click, hold and drag the tile to move it.
Apps can be placed on larger tiles to draw your attention to them, and less frequently used apps can be placed on smaller tiles. This feature allows you to display and highlight the applications you use the most in a way that is meaningful to you.

Snap Views
If you like snap views, youll appreciate the power and ease this update brings to multi-app use. You can open multiple apps on the screen at the same time and resize them however youd like to share the screen at the same time. This feature is especially useful for multitasking or for those who use multiple monitors.
Improved SkyDrive Experience
SkyDrive is now completely integrated into the operating system to allow you to save files directly to SkyDrive instead of saving them locally and then uploading them. Theres no cause to worry about not accessing your documents when youre offline; files in SkyDrive will be available even in offline mode.
While iOS and Linux have their fans, Windows is still king when it comes to operating systems. Windows 8.1 is now on the way, and offers a number of additions and improvements for users.
